Hi there, Ameena here! Here is a little about me:
I am a graduate of joint Honours Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Family and Community Social Services and diploma in Social Service Work from the University of Guelph-Humber. I have many certifications under my belt such as Substance Use and Addiction Nursing + Addiction Care and Treatment from the University of British Columbia, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Practitioner, Mindfulness Practitioner (Level 1-3 & Master), Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Domestic Violence Risk Assessment and Management, Sex/Porn Addiction, Nutrition, SMART Recovery, and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI). I am currently pursuing graduate studies with the aspiration of becoming a Psychologist.
I strive to provide accessible and affordable Mental Health and Addiction care and education wherever I go. I am located in Toronto, Canada - and work with individuals all around the world. I am a proud member of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW), along with the Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation (CACCF).
Growing up in environments that did not address mental health made it difficult for me to identify, understand, and support my own struggles with an Islamic upbringing, Indo-Caribbean roots, second-generation South American-Canadian woman identity. This led me to become hyperaware of the stigma and religious/cultural implications of mental health in immigrant and diverse communities. I wanted to do more than ‘break the cycle’ and advocate for initiatives. I felt inspired to be a part of the solution. Being a mental health professional allows me to show up for myself and others in the most healing and supportive ways. I truly believe I have the best job in the universe!
DEPRESSION & ANXIETY
Depression, fear, and anxiety are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions that we experience at some point in our lives.
A counsellor can help you understand and communicate your thoughts and feelings better, build motivation, improve self-esteem, as well as develop the necessary tools you need to live the life you want.
ADDICTION, GRIEF & LOSS
Many individuals need support through recovery and grief. Anxiety, fear, and hopelessness are a few common emotions.
A counsellor can help you work through deep-rooted issues, learn to cope in healthy ways, connect you with resources and support you through your journey.
Counselling can be helpful for individuals, couples, and families looking to strengthen and heal their emotional connection in any stage of life.
A counsellor can provide a safe and non-judgmental environment for you and/or your loved one(s) to discuss issues and find solutions that can strengthen your relationship together and/or individually.
